- Open Windows Paint and create an image 32x32 pixels using an unique colour for the background
- The colour for the pixel in the Top Left corner is used to determine the transparent background colour resulting in
- Save the image in My Documents as Logo.bmp
- Right-click on the Item you are going to customise the icon for
- Select Item Properties from the menu
- Select Change Icon...
- Click Graphics...
- Locate and select Logo.bmp
- Click Open
- Click OK
- Click OK
- And that's it!
What if you want to alter the icon being used slightly to indicate a specific use? Well CoolMenu makes the task of getting the icon fairly easy.
- Right-click on the Item you are going to alter the icon for.
- Select Item Properties from the menu.
- Select Change Icon...
- If the Item is a shortcut no icons will appear in the scroll box! To fix this select Browse... and click OK. You should now see the icons of the associated application.
- Select the icon you wish to alter
- Click Copy to Clipboard

- Click Paint

- In Paint set the Image Attributes... to 32x32 pixels
- From the Edit menu select Paste
- Now cutomise the image remembering to set the transparent colour (top-left)
- Save the image in My Documents
- Close Paint and return to CoolMenu
- Click Graphics...
- Locate and select the newly created image
- Click Open
- Click OK
- Click OK
- The Item should now display your newly created icon
You could use an icon editor in place of Paint, just make sure it's able to handle 256 colours.
